Girls Without Limits! (GWOL!)
About
Girls Without Limits! (GWOL!) is a low-cost weekend, spring break and summer camp program that encourages girls ages 10-14 to develop skills in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), gain career awareness via mentorship with professional women, and foster self-esteem and leadership skills in a positive and fun learning environment.
During GWOL! summer camps, girls are immersed in technology by writing, editing, filming and producing a video project about the environment or a women’s issue of their choice. While researching their topics, girls are introduced to female professionals in the fields of science, technology engineering and math through interviews and field trips. Past GWOL! field trips have included The Pacific Science Center, Intel, Boeing and the Point Defiance Zoo. At the end of each camp, the girls’ projects are posted on the GWOL! website. Check out the “Technically Speaking” blog created by girls who have completed the GWOL! Program.
GWOL! also holds spring break and occasional Saturday camps which are facilitated by YWCA staff and/or guest speakers. Session topics vary and past subjects have included waterway observation, cultures of the world, how the body works and keeping healthy, and exploring native plants & agriculture.
