Support our work to the community!
We at YWCA Olympia acknowledge that we live and work on stolen land. We acknowledge that colonization is an ongoing reality that impacts Indigenous communities globally everyday. We recognize the sovereignty of the tribes who are still present here on reservation land in the Olympia area, such as the Puyallup, Nisqually, Squaxin, and Chehalis tribes. We pay our respect to elders past and present, and extend that respect to other Indigenous people present today. We hope that this unceded, never surrendered, occupied territory will be returned to its rightful stewards.
We urge everyone to engage with Indigenous led movements and organizations, locally and around the world and use your actions and money to support this vital work. A few examples locally are Longhouse for the People, Jefferson County Anti-Racism Fund, Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women of Washington and LandBack.
